VCET LUNCH & LEARN: EXPLORING EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP MODELS

Date:

Thursday, April 1, 2021 - 12:00 to 13:00

Summary:

While it can often seem like a distant dream for folks working to get a new business off the ground, the earlier you can give serious thought to your desired exit, the more likely the path you end up choosing will be the one most in alignment with your vision and values. One option that’s less well known, but with which a number of Vermont entrepreneurs have found successful exits, is the sale of the company to the employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) or cooperative. In this session, Matt Cropp of the Vermont Employee Ownership Center will provide an overview of common broad-based employee ownership models, how an exit to employee ownership works, and the strategies founders can employ pre-exit to build a strong foundation for an ownership culture.
